How to Join
When you join the National Education Association, you become a member of our unified family at the local, state, and national levels. Our NEA affiliate organizations are in more than 13,000 local communities in every state. There are different categories of membership, described below, to fit your needs. In all cases, to become a member of the NEA, contact your state affiliate.
- Active Membership is for those who are employed in public education in a certified or support position in a public school district or institution of higher learning or whose job is primarily in education. Contact the affiliate in the state where you are employed.
- Retired Membership is for those who are no longer employed in public education and are eligible to receive a pension from an educational employment institution. Contact the affiliate in the state where you retired from education employment.
- Student Membership is for those who are attending school at a higher education institution. Contact the affiliate in the state where you are attending school.
