A few months ago, my wife Carol and I went to Hawaii for a little R&R after an Alaskan winter. One of the things we planned was a morning snorkeling trip on a boat going to a marine preserve. When we checked on prices and availability at one of the booking shops, we found out the price was $94 apiece—but that we could go for only $17 each if we would listen to a timeshare sales presentation.
