REG WEAVER:
It's labeling season in Washington, D.C.
As part of the so-called "No Child Left Behind" law, the federal government is telling parents across the country their schools and their children have failed.
I'm Reg Weaver, president of the National Education Association.
Eleven thousand public schools are already being punished, losing their federal funding and their local control.
Thousands more face penalties, all because of the government's one-size-fits-all approach to testing and school reform.
While your community pays for Washington's mandates, the federal government is actually cutting its financial commitment to public education.
The National Education Association believes that if the federal government is going to pass mandates, it should pay to implement those mandates.
That's why NEA is working in Congress and the courts to fully fund the so-called "No Child Left Behind" law.
