Speeches delivered at the NEA Annual Meeting
Keynote by President Reg Weaver
I cannot think of a better place to celebrate our nation's birthday and the 150th anniversary of the National Education Association. In 1857, 43 educators gathered here in Philadelphia. They were a small group of people, but they had a big idea, a national association to support education and promote its importance in American life. This was the birth of our organization, the National Education Association.
ESP of the Year: Veronica Henderson
I feel truly blessed. I wish to share with you a quote of mine: "You study history to know from whence you come, to plot where you are going, and to understand where you are now and why."
Richard Dreyfuss Speaks to NEA Annual Meeting about Civics Education
We do not teach civics in this country. Civics is the prepartisan tools of civic expertise that teach us how to run a republican democracy. There are in this country a dwindling amount of schools that can even say, well, we teach civics.
