Editor’s Note - When We Work Together, Students Win

As we go to press, the staff at NEA headquarters is excited about, and grateful to members who took action encouraging Congress to provide state governments funding to keep educators on the job serving students this school year. Some of you called or wrote local offices. Many of you came to Washington. We appreciate all of you. We often talk about how collective action can make a difference; NEA members demonstrated it.

But we’re not done yet. Like clockwork, another election cycle comes to fruition this fall. As usual, the stakes are high—from the makeup of Congress to the occupants of statehouses to innumerable ballot initiatives and local issues.

As always, we urge you to be sure you’re registered, and be sure to vote. Party affiliation notwithstanding, our votes on behalf of public schools and public education shape education policy at all levels and affect the availability of resources needed to serve our students.
