Educators endorse Judy Biggert for Re-election to U.S. House of Representatives

Candidate’s priorities: increasing education funding, returning control to local educators

WASHINGTON - February 09, 2012 -

The National Education Association’s political action committee (PAC), The NEA Fund, today endorsed Judy Biggert (R-IL) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Biggert has represented the 13th district since 1999.

“Educators are proud to again endorse Judy Biggert for the U.S. House,” said NEA President Dennis Van Roekel. “She shares so many of NEA’s priorities for education.  As a former school board member, she brings to Congress a commitment to students, the right vision for public education and the right values to make the tough choices on behalf of working and middle class families in Illinois and across the nation.”

The NEA Fund has endorsed Rep. Biggert since the 2008 election cycle.  “I am very grateful for the ongoing support and encouragement of our nation’s teachers,” said Biggert. “Education has always been my passion, and together we will continue to fight to make our nation’s education policies more flexible, more innovative, and more effective.  It’s only by listening to the voices of our best and brightest educators that lawmakers can take the steps necessary to ensure that every student has an opportunity to succeed in the 21st century.”

We are pleased to support Rep. Judy Biggert,” said Illinois Education Association President Cinda Klickna. “She has been an independent leader on public education issues and a strong voice for teachers and school employees. Rep. Biggert has been a strong supporter of fully funding IDEA, increasing access to early education programs, and of comprehensive changes in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to allow more flexibility to local districts.”

The NEA Fund provides direct financial support to recommended candidates for president, the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate, who will fight improve public education, and support students, teachers and staff.
