Sit There!

In Front of the Class

by Linda Starr, Education World

Seating assignments should be clear -- and flexible.

Velcro Dots

Create a visual seating chart.

Take a digital photograph of each student, print the photos, and write the student's name at the bottom. Attach a Velcro dot to the back of each photo and to a seating chart created on laminated poster board. Staple a sheet of transparency over the chart and you can make notes on it too.

Velcro Strips

Mark areas on the floor.

Use Velcro strips to mark children's places on a classroom carpet. The hook side sticks to the carpet, and you can write a name on the reverse side. And they can be vacuumed!

Velcro Strips or Dots

Attach name tags to desks.

Taping nametags to a desk can be a sticky situation when you want to move students'. Why not use Velcro instead of tape? Velcro-ed name tags can be moved easily.
