Effective Dropout Prevention Strategies

New Guide from U.S. Department of Education

A new practice guide is now available from the Institute for Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education: Dropout Prevention (September 2008).

Being a school dropout continues to be a problem for students, schools, and our society as well.  The intention of this publication by the US Department of Education is to help educators, superintendents, school boards, and state policy makers develop effective dropout prevention strategies.

In meeting this objective, the publication includes recommendations and includes evidence confirming the legitimacy of the recommendation, as well as suggestions about how to carry out these recommendations.
The publication is a useful addition to the growing research not only on the dropout problem but how school systems and education advocates can prevent students from dropping out.
