Pre-Conference EventsNEA Women’s Training Leadership (WLT) Seminar
Wednesday, January 20 - Friday, January 22, 2010

This training will provide the Personal Professional Decision Making Skills (PPDMS), which is designed to give emerging women leaders a systematic decision-making model based on individual values and demonstrate how those values relate to the Association.  Participants practice making personal, professional and organizational decisions; take stock of their personal values; and develop requisite processes for decision making, in order to facilitate further involvement in the Association.

Participants of the funded five-member teams will have an option to attend both the Women’s Leadership Training Program and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Leadership Conference (January 22-24). The Mid-Atlantic Regional Leadership Conference registration fee will be waived for members of the funded Women’s Leadership Training Teams who choose to attend the MARLC.

For further WLTP information, please contact: NEA Human and Civil Rights, Pamela Rios Mobley at (202) 822-7727 or Robin Jones at (202) 822-7713

NEA Minority Leadership Training (MLT) Seminar
Wednesday, January 20 – Friday, January 22, 2010

Developing 21st Century Leaders through Member Involvement is the theme for the 2010 Minority Leadership Training (MLT) Seminar. This theme reflects the Association’s commitment to train our leaders to more effectively respond to the challenges and opportunities of this 21st Century. This year, a major focus will be “member organizing” —to emphasize the key role that an organized body of ethnic minority leaders can play in serving and retaining current members, recruiting new members, organizing members to become more effective advocates for social justice, and ensuring great public schools for all students.  In addition to enhancing leadership skills, the seminar familiarizes participants with critical education issues facing the Association. Although designed for ethnic minority leaders, the content can be beneficial for non-minority leaders as well. There are two target audiences for the MLT Seminar:

Emerging Leaders - members recently elected to Association office or members who are just beginning to participate in Association work.
Experienced Leaders - members who have previously participated in the NEA MLT Program. You may be a local leader who wants to become more effective, or you may be interested in moving into a leadership position at the state and national levels.

For further MLT information, please contact: Patricia Wright, NEA Human and Civil Rights at (202) 822-7334.
