African American Read-In

February 1-28, 2009

Join over a million readers in the Twentieth Annual African American Read-in! Sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and NCTE, the program is also endorsed by the International Reading Association (IRA).

For 2009 only, the Read-In is extended throughout the entire Month of February. Beginning on Sunday, February 1, through Saturday, February 28, you can hold a Read-In on any day of the month.

Schools, churches, libraries, community and professional organizations, and interested citizens are urged to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month by hosting and coordinating Read-Ins in their communities. Hosting a Read-In can be as simple as bringing friends together to share a book, or as elaborate as arranging public readings and media presentations that feature professional African American authors.
