Delegate Fundraising Drive Benefits Local President
July 4, 2009

David Hockaday, a paraprofessional and president of the Lansing Educational Assistants Union, sits in his new Dodge Caravan, equipped with a wheelchair lift - a $36,000 gift from David’s friends and colleagues in the Michigan Education Association. The limitations of his 1993 Cadillac Coup De Ville were making it harder for David to travel around Lansing and do his job.
Jerry Swartz, president of the Lansing Schools Education Association, spearheaded a fundraising drive that began at the 2008 RA and ended in February when David was presented with his brand new set of wheels. “The generosity of the education community has been overwhelming and I’ll always be grateful,” says Davis. “I can now continue the work I love. And I can’t wait to drive to New Orleans next year!”
