Civil War Washington Teacher Fellows
Applications Available for July 2010 Workshop
Walk in the footsteps of Abraham Lincoln and the conspirators who planned his assassination. Visit the home of a southern sympathizer in historic Georgetown and learn how she saved her beloved estate from the Union Army. Learn how to help history come alive for your students.
This summer, up to 25 teachers can attend a five-day summer institute—July 11-16, 2010—hosted by Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. They will learn how to use oratory skills in the classroom (like Lincoln and Frederick Douglass!), and leave with new ideas for classroom dramas and virtual tours.
For "commuter" teachers, the cost is $300 (includes workshops, materials, breakfasts and lunches, as well as dinner on Sunday evening). For others, who require airfare and housing, the cost is $600.
Applications are due March 14, 2010.
