Read Across America at Evangeline Elementary starts off with Green Eggs & Ham -- after all, it's National School Breakfast Week, too!  

 Here comes the Cat-A-Van!

The NEA Cat-A-Van pulled up to Evangeline Elementary School, joined by NEA Executive Committee member Earl Wiman to bring reading fun to the students of Lafayette, LA. Evangeline's young readers got some Seussian-style inspiration today when they were paid a special visit by the National Education Association’s Cat-a-Van Reading Tour:

Baton Rouge - New Orleans

NEA Executive Committee Member Earl Wiman is interviwed on WBPR 107.3 FM in Baton Rouge to discuss Read Across America's Cat-A-Van tour stops at Westminister and Magnolia Woods Elementary Schools!

 

WBPR 107.3-FM - Baton Rouge, LA - March 5, 2015

Cat in the Hat and his friends, Thing 1 and Thing 2, joined by NEA Executive Committee member Joyce Powell, paid visits to Westminister Elementary and Magnolia Woods Elementary in Baton Rouge. These mark the final stops - along with an afternoon trek down to New Orleans - on the Cat-A-Van's week-long tour to give the gift of reading.   

The Cat-A-Van was greeted with warm welcomes on the walls of Westminster ES: 

 The walls were decorated with colorful Seussical welcomes at Westminster Elementary

There was a big reading celebration:

And...how cool is THIS? Westminster Elementary has an original 1949 copy of Bartholomew and the Oobleck:

Then, it was off to Magnolia Wooods Elementary, where Cat in the Hat and NEA Executive Committee Member Joyce Powell handed out goodies and a check to hundreds of happy students and faculty:

New Orleans is the final stop on the 2015 Cat-a-Van Reading Tour, and Oh, the places students will geaux when they open up a good book! The culmination of an amazing week-long celebration of reading took place at the Louisiana Children's Museum, featuring NEA President Lily Eskelsen Garcia:

ESP guest readers, including 2014 National ESP of the Year Paula Monroe, took the stage and kept the love for reading flowing:
