Get Social for American Education Week

Here's how you can use social media to spread the word and celebrate your school and your colleagues November 14-18.

November 14-18 marks the National Education Association’s 95th annual celebration of American Education Week. Check out our “cheat sheet” with an overview of our activities and how you can help promote them, as well as sample tweets, Facebook posts, and links to our social media tools. And whatever you post to celebrate the week, be sure to use the hashtag #AEW2016.

  • Twitter: NEA Today will be tweeting the latest and greatest news about our national and local AEW events. Be sure to use the hashtag #AEW2016 and follow our feed.
  • Facebook: NEA Today’s Facebook page will announce our lineup of activities, promotional materials, tools and resources that will help you celebrate AEW.
  • Instagram: Post a photo of what your “edutopia” looks like and use the hashtag #AEW2016.
  • Pinterest: Looking for images, links and all things ESP? Look no further--our Education Support Professional Pinterest board is chock full of things for you to download, share, and use!

Celebrate By Day

Monday, November 14
Schools across the country will kick off the 95th AEW celebration.

How you can participate:

  • Include #AEW2016 in all your kick off tweets.
  • Help us kick off AEW and use our artwork to promote the celebration.
  • Update your Facebook status to highlight the importance of quality public education and thank educators for their dedication and hard work.

 

Tuesday, November 15
It’s Parents Day! Schools will invite parents into the classroom for a firsthand look at what the school day is like for their children.

How you can participate:

  • Use #AEW2016 in your Parents Day tweets.
  • Check out and promote our online parent resources.
  • Take a look at our parental involvement tips and share your own tips for success.

 

Wednesday, November 16
On Education Support Professionals Day, schools celebrate the educators who keep our schools running and our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

How you can participate:

  • Tweet about ESP Day using #AEW2016.
  • Thank ESPs for their commitment to students.
  • Update your Facebook status and tweet about an ESP who made a difference in your life.
  • Use our ESP Day planning guide to put together a memorable event.

 

Thursday, November 17
Community leaders will be invited into schools as Educators for a Day to experience the challenges of teaching and the needs of students.

How you can participate:

  • Encourage Educator for a Day events using #AEW2016.
  • Volunteer at a local public school.
  • Organize an Educator for a Day event using our online toolkit.

 

Friday, November 18
Schools across the country honor substitute educators who are called in when regularly employed educators are on sick or other leave.

How you can participate:

  • Use #AEW2016 in your Substitute Educator tweets.
  • Recognize substitute educators at local schools by saying Thank You.
