Local President Release Time Grant
Freeing Local Presidents to Grow Their Affiliates
Deadline: Monday, December 14, 2009
The Local President Release Time Grant was formed to encourage the growth and development of NEA's local associations by providing financial assistance towards the full or part-time release of local presidents, so as to build and strengthen the Association from the grass roots.
Six full and six part-time release president grants are awarded each year. If there are less than six qualified full and part-time release president grant applicants, an appropriate number of qualified local associations are awarded grants. Every effort is made to insure that grants are awarded equitably among the NEA regions. If there are an insufficient number of applicants in a specific NEA region, then grants are allocated to local associations in other NEA regions.
Local associations of any size that are affiliated with the National Education Association are are encouraged to apply, so long as their current budget will allow them to sustain their share of the cost of the program without impairing existing programs. The participating local association, its state affiliate, and NEA fund the program. The duration of the program is for a three-year period.
NEA provides training for participating presidents and staff. This training is required during the first year of the program, and is designed to provide the president and staff with an opportunity to begin team-building. Follow-up training is provided for second and third year program participants.
