Letter to Congress alerting them to the new education funding charts
April 17, 2007
As Congress finalizes the Congressional Budget Resolution and prepares to begin work on an FY08 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill, we are pleased to inform you of the availability of new data and analyses on education funding. Specifically, NEA now has information comparing the Administration's FY08 budget request for specific education programs to FY07 funding and program authorization levels.
The Administration's budget request would have cut overall education funding by $1.5 billion (-2.6%). We are pleased that both the House and Senate Budget Resolutions rejected these proposed cuts.
Data currently posted on the NEA Web site highlights funding shortfalls for key programs, including programs under the No Child Left Behind Act and special education, on a state and congressional district basis. We hope you will find this information useful as you consider funding for the next fiscal year.
