Congressional leaders are looking to put together an economic recovery package for consideration by the Obama Administration early in 2009. NEA strongly believes that any stimulus package must include both assistance for struggling families and relief for states facing significant budget shortfalls. To this end, we have sent a letter to congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle outlining our requests for such a package.
NEA President Dennis Van Roekel testified on October 29 before the House Ways and Means Committee on the importance of including investments in school infrastructure in an economic stimulus package. President Van Roekel's testimony highlighted the great need for school modernization funding and the significant positive impact of school construction investments on local economies.
