Another Organizing Victory: Florida State University Graduate Assistants Vote YES for NEA
Graduate employees at Florida State University voted by a more than three-to-one margin to unionize with the United Faculty of Florida (UFF), an affiliate of the Florida Education Association, which is jointly affiliated with the NEA and AFT.
The newly approved union, UFF-FSU-GAU, became the official representative of 2800 graduate employees when voting concluded May 1st.
Danielle Holbrook, UFF-FSU-GAU Co-President, said “We teach a majority of the classes at FSU….Without our labor, the university could not function, but we’ve had no legal voice in how we are treated, so we organized a union and are ready to negotiate with the university.”
This latest graduate assistants’ union joins UFF grad assistant locals at the University of Florida, University of South Florida, and Florida A&M University.
