National and State Graduation Rates in Two Reports (NCES, 2009)

You can find the latest statistics about national and state graduation rates in two reports from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

The Digest of Education Statistics, 2008

This report (published in March 2009) provides information on the number of public high school graduates for the nation as a whole through 2005-06, the latest year for which estimates currently are available. The Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate of 2005-06 was 73.4 percent.  NCES statisticians project future graduation rates for 2006-07 (75.4 percent), 2007-08 (75.4 percent), and 2008-09 (74.8 percent) (See Table 104). You will also find graduation rates for each state for several years, including 2005-06 (See Table 106).

This report (published in January 2009) also provides state-by-state graduation rates, but you will find those rates reported for American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic, Black, and White students (See Table 2).
