Four Strategies To Increase the Supply of Teachers in High-Need Areas

The challenges of ensuring teacher excellence and diversity are not new.  However, only recently have these issues begun to garner the public attention needed to bring about actual change in the composition of the teacher workforce.  This report, prepared by the National Education Association, focuses on the recruitment and retention of educators of color and discusses four strategies to increase the existing pool:

  • College fellows programs
  • High school teacher cadet programs
  • High school teacher academies
  • Community colleges
