Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Released 2009 Edition of "Education at a Glance"

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) released the 2009 edition of its annual Education at a Glance series this month.  Key findings confirm that Higher education pays dividends to both individuals and society at large.  Individuals continue to benefit “through higher salaries, better health, and less vulnerability to unemployment.”  Public investment benefits society at large, since “When factoring in the direct and indirect costs for education, the net public return from an investment” in higher education “is almost twice the amount of the investment made by the public side (including both public direct costs and public forgone revenue.)”  This research “provides a strong incentive to expand higher education in most countries through either public or private financing.”

Here are key findings from the report.
