Letter to the House asking for Cosponsors on a Resolution to Commemorate American Education Week

November 12, 2009

Dear Representative:

We would like to urge you to add your name as a cosponsor for a Resolution (H.Res.879) introduced by Representatives Minnick (D-ID)  and Biggert (R-IL) commemorating the 88th annual observance of American Education Week.

American Education Week, scheduled for November 15-21, 2009, spotlights the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education from kindergarten through college, and the need for everyone to do his or her part in making public schools great.  Public schools are the backbone of America’s democracy, providing young people with the tools they need to maintain our values of freedom, civility, and equity.  People working in the field of public education – teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff – work tirelessly to serve students and communities throughout the nation with care and professionalism.  American Education Week celebrates the efforts of these dedicated professionals by spotlighting different aspects of public education and encouraging community, parental, and elected official involvement in public schools.

H.Res.879 encourages the people of the United States to reflect on the positive impact that our public schools have across the country and recognizes all those who work together to educate children.  To cosponsor this Resolution, please contact Hadley Sosnoff in Representative Minnick’s office at 5-6611  or Griffin Foster  in Representative Biggert’s office at 5-3515.Thank you.
