Global Action Week - April 19-25 2010

Take part in the 1GOAL Lesson for All

Today, more than 72 million children do not have the opportunity to attend primary school. In addition, 226 million children are denied the opportunity to attend secondary school.

The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) brings together major nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and teachers’ unions in more than 100 countries to promote access to education as a basic human right and mobilizes public pressure to create the political will for governments and other leaders in the international community to fulfill their promises to provide at least a free, public basic education for all children.

Global Action Week happens every April - it's a moment in which children, teachers, parents and people around the world unite in their demands for education.

The theme for Global Action Week 2010 is Financing Quality Public Education: A Right for All! The Global Campaign for Education has teamed with the FIFA and the 2010 World Cup soccer tournament to launch 1GOAL, a worldwide effort to collect names in support of Education for All from the public, soccer players and celebrities.
