Letter to the House Urging Support/Cosponsorship of the ESP Award Bill
March 08, 2010
Support Legislation to Create National Classified School Employees of the Year Award
On behalf of the National Education Association’s (NEA) 3.2 million members, we urge you to support legislation (H.R. 2377) introduced by Representatives Titus and Woolsey that would create a National Classified School Employees of the Year Award. If you are not already a cosponsor of this legislation, we urge you to add your name as a supporter. We urge all members of the House to support the bill when it comes up for consideration in the coming weeks.
Classified school employees—including paraeducators, clerical assistants, school bus drivers, custodians, food service workers, technicians, custodians, school nurses, and security professionals — provide essential services to America’s public schools and institutions of higher education. As an integral part of the public education system, classified school employees promote student achievement, ensure student safety, and contribute to the establishment and promotion of a positive instructional environment.
Classified school employees strive for excellence in all areas relative to the education community. H.R. 2377 would provide long overdue recognition for their outstanding contributions to our nation’s schools and the students they serve.
We urge your support for this important legislation.
