NEA Member Benefits and Target to Sponsor the National Education Association’s Green Across America Grants Program
$50,000 in Grants for Educators to Promote Environmental Initiatives
GAITHERSBURG, MD - April 22, 2010 -
The National Education Association and Target are partnering in a new program that will award $50,000 in grants to educators to implement innovative activities, lessons or events that get students excited about “going green” and raise awareness of school-based environmentalism.
The first annual NEA’s Green Across America Grants program is a national competition aimed at helping educators and students design activities that raise environmental awareness and develop eco-sustainable behavior. To enter, educators have to submit an application at http://www.neamb.com/green.
“Our members are committed to helping students practice and model sustainable, earth-friendly behaviors, so I know they will be excited about these environmentally focused grants,” said NEA Executive Director John Wilson. “We appreciate Target’s support to help educators and students celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in this way.”
The Green Across America Grants support environmental literacy by enabling students to:
- Actively participate in innovative, awareness-raising, content-rich, activities-based programs;
- Develop hands-on skills for taking positive, practical, and personal action on environmental issues; and
- Engage their schools and communities in increased environmental conservation activities.
Green Across America grant applications will be available beginning May 1. Information is available at http://www.neamb.com/green.
