Letter to the House Members who Voted Yes on the Education Jobs Bill
August 11, 2010
On behalf of the 3.2 million members of the National Education Association (NEA), the students they serve, their families and their communities, we thank you for voting to create a $10 billion education jobs fund and extend enhanced Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAP).
Your vote was critical to our nation’s future. It will save an estimated 160,000 educators’ jobs, help ensure conditions conducive to teaching and learning in public schools nationwide, provide an immediate boost to the economy, and reduce the federal deficit over the long term.
Our members in your district and across the nation watched this vote closely. On their behalf, we thank you again for doing what is right and supporting public education—the best investment our nation can make in the children who will lead 21st century America.
