Underdog

I recently heard the theme from the old “Underdog” cartoon. The second verse caught my attention:

When in this world the headlines read
Of those whose hearts are filled with greed
And rob and steal from those in need
To right this wrong with blinding speed—
Goes Underdog!

I was immediately put in mind of the heroic teachers and ESPs taking on governors and state legislators bent on taking away collective bargaining rights, reneging on pension agreements, and committing other unsavory deeds.

But a shout-out is long overdue to the everyday superheroes in our schools—serving in classrooms, school buses, lunch lines, and libraries. And you should join the shouting. Check out our cover story, then visit ClassroomSuperheroes.com where you can join their ranks, nominate a fellow educator, and support your superhero colleagues.
