Thank you Letter on Budget Vote to Senators Snowe, Collins, Brown (MA), and Murkowski
May 26, 2011
On behalf of the National Education Association's (NEA) 3.2 million members, we would like to express our sincere appreciation for your vote this week against the deeply troubling House-passed Ryan budget proposal. Our members across the nation are very grateful for your support.
We thank you for recognizing that the Ryan budget would make all the wrong choices for our nation. By choosing Wall Street over Main Street, the budget would result in more joblessness for the middle class and more tax breaks for the wealthiest in our country. The middle class continues to struggle to find work, pay more for health care, and worry about their children’s education and future. Seniors continue to worry about their retirement security. Yet, the Ryan budget proposal provides rhetoric rather than solutions.
Educators understand that Congress must work to ensure America’s long-term economic prosperity. And, we recognize that we must address the nation’s serious fiscal challenges. But, we do not believe that cutting education funding and slashing programs that serve children, the elderly, and working families is the answer.
Thank you for making the right choice for our nation by voting no on this dangerous proposal.
