Vice President Biden to address 9,000 educators at NEA annual meeting

Vice President to address nation’s largest labor and education group

WASHINGTON - June 27, 2011 -

Vice President Joe Biden will address the National Education Association’s 149th Annual Meeting and 90th Representative Assembly (RA) in Chicago at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 3rd. An estimated 9,000 educators from every state will come together to address pressing issues facing the teaching profession, students and schools.  

The delegates represent NEA’s 3.2 million members living across the United States.  NEA is the nation’s largest labor union and represents one in every 100 Americans.

The top decision-making body for NEA, the RA sets Association policy for the coming year. Delegates adopt the strategic plan and budget, resolutions, the legislative program, and other Association policies, and they vote on proposed amendments to NEA’s Constitution and Bylaws. The NEA Representative Assembly is the world's largest democratic deliberative body.

The theme for this year’s Annual Meeting is NEA Standing Strong: for our Students, our Schools, and America.
