This report for the school year 2005-2006 provides continuing data on the professional and personal characteristics of teachers, the current status of their teaching conditions, their attitudes toward the profession, and their community and civic activities.

Status of the American Public School Teacher 2000-2001
(August 2003) (PDF, 1.2 MB, 384pp) 
This report shows that educators spend much of their own time expanding their knowledge and skills, and hundreds of their own dollars purchasing classroom supplies for their students. The majority would return to the classroom and do it all again.
