Letter to Representative Honda supporting the Reuniting Families Act
May 10, 2012
Dear Representative Honda:
The National Education Association (NEA) is pleased to offer our support for the Reuniting Families Act (H.R. 1796). This important legislation will ensure that immigration reform supports the core value of keeping families together.
NEA policy calls for comprehensive immigration reform that, among other things, “recognizes the importance of family unity and rejects laws and delays that undermine keeping families intact.” We agree that efficient, fair and effective avenues for legal, family-based immigration are vital to keeping America strong. Reuniting families kept apart by current arcane and bureaucratic immigration laws will provide significant benefit to children, who will be able to receive the full support and care provided by unified families.
We are pleased that your bill would remove barriers and decrease backlogs to facilitate family reunification. We believe such changes are an essential part of any immigration reform efforts. We thank you for your leadership on this important issue and look forward to continuing to work with you on these important issues.
