Letter to Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi
November 16, 2012
Dear Minority Leader Pelosi:
It is my distinct pleasure to offer my congratulations on your decision to serve once again as Minority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. As a representative of more than three million educators across the nation, I am delighted that you will continue your leadership role and your fight for equality, fairness, and justice for all Americans.
Educators and the students they serve are profoundly grateful for your longstanding efforts on behalf of middle class families, children, seniors, and the most vulnerable in our nation. You have been a true champion for public education and the programs that help ensure all students the supports and resources they need to succeed. Millions of Americans have already benefited greatly from your leadership in securing passage of the Affordable Care Act and the American Recovery and Investment Act. And, your focus on creating jobs, spurring economic recovery, and making sure everyone pays his or her fair share will be critical in the coming months.
The stakes for our nation are perhaps higher than they have ever been before in this lame duck session and the 113th Congress. As Congress continues to debate between two vastly different approaches on spending cuts, revenues, and long-term deficit reduction, I am thankful to have a champion such as yourself at the table. I am confident that you will continue to fight vigorously on behalf of the children who have already sacrificed so much and done more than their part toward deficit reduction.
I look forward to continuing to work closely with you as we face the significant challenges ahead.
