Letter to the House of Representatives on a resolution to establish National Teacher Day - 01/22/08

January 22, 2008

Dear Representative:

On behalf of the National Education Association's (NEA) 3.2 million members, we urge you to add your name as a cosponsor of a resolution introduced by Representatives Klein (D-FL) and Roskam (R-IL) expressing the sense of Congress that there should be a national day of recognition for our nation's teachers.

Few professionals touch as many people as teachers do. They work to open students' minds to ideas, knowledge and dreams. They keep American democracy alive by laying the foundation for good citizenship. And, teachers fill many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors.

We believe it is important for our nation to recognize the invaluable contributions that teachers make in helping to prepare our youth for future success and in helping to build a strong America. The Klein-Roskam resolution would create a national day of teacher recognition on the first Tuesday of the first full week of May. Further, it would call on the President to issue a proclamation to the American people to observe and celebrate a National Teacher Day.

To add your support to this resolution, please contact Virginia Neale (Klein) or David Mork (Roskam).

Thank you.

Sincerely,
