DREAMers/Immigration Reform

After years of waiting in the shadows of society, millions of aspiring new Americas are a step closer to reaching the light at the end of the tunnel thanks to the bipartisan work of the U.S. Senate. Now, the U.S. House of Representatives holds the key to open the door wide open for these aspiring new Americans.

They can make or break their American dreams. We urge the U.S. House of Representatives to do what is right and just and follow in the footsteps of the Senate to swiftly pass comprehensive immigration reform.

NEA supports comprehensive immigration reform, and is urging Congress to pass a bill that creates a comprehensive pathway to citizenship for the more than 11 million aspiring Americans; preserves the unity of family, traditional and untraditional; and, includes the DREAM Act and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Take action: Tell your Representative to support immigration reform (H.R. 15).

Speak Up for DREAMers Call 1-866-632-6057, and urge your representative to support fair immigration reform for our students and their families.

As educators and concerned community members, we have witnessed for far too long the fear and distress our broken immigration system has caused our students, their families and our communities.

We see these aspiring Americans every day in our classrooms and our schools. They are valedictorians, honors students, idealistic, hard-working youth, our friends and our neighbors. Sign our petition to show your support.

DREAMer thanks educators: ‘I’m here because of you’

Gaby Pacheco is a tireless advocate for DREAMers. She’s testified before the U.S. Senate, was profiled by Time magazine, walked 1,500 miles from Miami to Washington, D.C., and has been interviewed on more news programs and by more newspaper reporters than she can remember.

But when all is said and done, she gives credit to educators for whatever she’s been able to accomplish.

Meet more DREAMers and discover their stories.
