Educators endorse U.S. Rep. John Garamendi’s reelection to Congress

Rep. Garamendi pledges to continue to champion educators and students

WASHINGTON - May 06, 2014 -

The National Education Association’s political action committee, the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education, today, endorsed the reelection of U.S. Rep. John Garamendi to the U.S. Congress.

“Rep. John Garamendi shares our values and the values of the working families of California’s 3rd Congressional District,” said NEA President Dennis Van Roekel. “He is a staunch advocate for students and educators. He understands that the road to economic prosperity and security starts in our nation’s public schools. He’s a champion of working families, and if reelected, he will continue to work hard to make our economy work for all of us, not just the wealthy few and rich corporations. That’s why we are proud to endorse John Garamendi’s reelection.”

From voting for legislation that kept educators on the job instead of the unemployment line to fighting for smaller class sizes, Rep. Garamendi believes that America’s prosperity depends on a well-educated workforce. He understands that Congress can do more to invest in transportation, clean technology, education, and research while also extending tax relief for hard working middle-class families.

“Congressman John Garamendi has the right values and vision to speak up in Congress for educators and students,” said Dean E. Vogel, president of the California Teachers Association (CTA). “As a lawmaker who puts Californians first, he understands the pressing issues facing our schools. He knows the important role education plays in preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow so that America can compete in the global marketplace. We look forward to continue working with Rep. Garamendi in Washington.”

The NEA Fund for Children and Public Education, the NEA’s national political action committee, provides direct financial support to candidates for president, U.S. House, and U.S. Senate who will fight to support teachers, staff, and students and improve public education. CTA represents 110,000 teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff.
