Educators endorse Mark DeSaulnier for Congress
California Senator DeSaulnier pledges to fight for students, educators and public schools
WASHINGTON - May 06, 2014 -
The National Education Association’s political action committee, the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education, today endorsed the election of Mark DeSaulnier for U.S. House of Representatives.
“Mark DeSaulnier shares our values and the values of the working families of California’s 11th Congressional District,” said NEA President Dennis Van Roekel. “A relentless advocate for students and educators, he understands that the road to economic prosperity and security starts in our nation’s public schools. He’s a champion of working families, and if elected, he will work hard to make our economy work for all of us, not just the wealthy few and rich corporations.”
DeSaulnier is a seasoned legislator with a proven track record of putting Californians ahead of politics. A small business owner with deep ties to the community, he is tremendously qualified and, if elected, would replace retiring Representative George Miller, who chaired the influential House Education and Workforce Committee in Washington.
“Mark DeSaulnier has the right values and vision to speak up in Congress for educators and students,” said Dean E. Vogel, president of the California Teachers Association. “As an elected leader who puts Californians first, he understands the pressing issues facing our schools. He knows the important role education plays in preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow so that America can compete in the global marketplace.”
The NEA Fund for Children and Public Education, the NEA’s national political action committee, provides direct financial support to candidates for president, U.S. House, and U.S. Senate who will fight to support teachers, staff, and students and improve public education. CTA represents 110,000 teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff.
