Statement by NEA President on passing of Julian Bond


WASHINGTON - August 16, 2015 -

National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen García released the following statement on the passing of Dr. Julian Bond, the former chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP):

“Julian Bond was a caring educator, a civil rights leader and a moral beacon for a nation continually striving for a more perfect union. America’s educators mourn the loss of a guiding conscience for social justice. While he will be missed, Dr. Bond’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations as we strive for equality for all.”
