NEA congratulates Terry Holliday on NBPTS election

Lily Eskelsen García: Dr. Holliday’s experience will allow him to be an effective advocate for education


WASHINGTON - December 05, 2015 -

The National Board for Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS) announced yesterday that Terry Holliday, Ph.D., has been elected Chairman of the NBPTS Board of Directors, succeeding former West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise who served in the role since 2009. Both NEA President Lily Eskelsen García and Vice President Becky Pringle serve on the NBPTS Board.

The following can be attributed to National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen García:

“NEA congratulates Dr. Holliday on his appointment as chairman of the NBPTS Board of Directors. His experience as an educator and as a leader in increasing teacher quality will allow him to be a knowledgeable and effective advocate for public education, educators and students

“Dr. Holliday has always had a keen understanding of the issues facing educators and student learning, and the role educators must play in shaping the future of education and the profession. He worked collegially and effectively with our affiliate, the Kentucky Education Association, during his tenure as Kentucky’s Commissioner of Education.

“KEA President Stephanie Winkler said, ‘During the six years I worked with Dr. Holliday, he consistently advocated for teacher leadership and for holding all school employees to high standards to ensure the best possible education for all students.’”
