Paraeducator Webinar Series!


NEA ESP Quality will be offering a series of webinars through the 2016-2017 school year on topics such as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), effective teacher-para teams, behavior management, and more. Part 1: The Foundation for Effective Teams
Wednesday, February 1 / 7:00 - 8:00 PM EST

The first webinar in the series will look at the critical elements needed to build the foundation for effective teams. It will address roles and responsibilities of paraeducators, teachers, and administrators; components of effective teams (including characteristics of effective team leaders and members); as well as common problems with team dynamics and strategies to avoid them in the first place.

Part 2: Problem Solving and Other Strategies for Successful Teams

The second webinar in our series will take a deeper look into common problems with team dynamics by examining problem solving techniques, effective communication strategies, and critical issues such as delegation, performance feedback, collaboration and mutual support/respect.

Part 3: Advocacy and Real-World Scenarios

Wednesday, February 15 / 7:00 - 8:00 PM EST

The final webinar in the series will focus on advocacy as it relates to hiring practices, professional development, planning time, recruiting administrator support for the instructional team and more. This webinar will also take a deep dive into real-world scenarios that impact teacher-paraeducator teams.

Para Power!

This highly interactive workshop addresses behavior management strategies and positive intervention supports, roles and responsibilities, effective teacher/paraeducator teams, and advocacy and problem solving. Participants will walk away empowered to advocate for themselves and their students. This training is offered by members of NEA’s Para Power Cadre and can be modified for various session lengths. Building a Winning Teacher and Paraeducator Team


Paraeducators and Teachers: Building a Winning Team was created in 1996 in response to affiliate requests for assistance in the area of paraeducator and teacher team building. Paraeducator roles have changed and they have become a more active and integral part of the education team. With these changes comes the challenge of how to build a better and stronger instructional team. This training is currently being updated and will be available in Fall of 2017. NEA National ESP Conference

The NEA National ESP conference is the premier professional development opportunity for Education Support Professionals across the nation. The goal of this conference is to enhance the skills and knowledge of ESP members to positively impact student achievement, build community relations, organize members, advocate for educators, build stronger locals, and help our members do their jobs better.

NRCP National Conference on the Training & Employment of Paraeducators


The National Resource Center for Paraeducators (NRCP) National Conference on the Training and Employment of Paraeducators is a unique opportunity for paraeducators, teachers, administrators and other educators to learn from nationally recognized experts on a variety of issues. Diverse workshops on how to improve the professional practice of paraeducators, foster effective paraeducator/teacher/administrator teams, and how federal and state legislative mandates impact paraeducator careers are offered. The event also offers numerous other learning and networking opportunities. NEA and the Illinois Education Association were happy to have co-sponsored the 2016 conference which was held in April in Oak Brook, IL.
