You’ve Written Great Copy, Now Learn How to Package It All Together
The most important aspect of writing your newsletter is choosing the right subject line. Studies have shown that the single most important factor influencing whether or not readers will even open your email is the subject line. Choose something that defines clearly the purpose and goal of your email and that will connect with readers on an emotional level. “School Board Rally Next Week” will always be more compelling than a generic “Spring Newsletter.”
To organize your e-newsletter – and streamline the editorial process – divide it into sections, much as the front page of a newspaper is divided into news features that showcase content from various sections of the paper.
These features should appear consistently with each e-newsletter; that way, you won't have to scramble issue to issue, reinventing the wheel. You'll have a “template” set up, already designed and topped with section headers that will alert readers to what each feature is about.
