Letter to Senator Salazar supporting his Latino Museum Commission Act
March 26, 2007
Dear Senator Salazar:
On behalf of the National Education Association's (NEA) 3.2 million members, we would like to thank you for your leadership in introducing the Latino Museum Commission Act (S. 500).
NEA supports multicultural education as a means of helping our nation's students perceive the cultural diversity of the United States so they may develop pride in their own cultural legacy and awaken to the ideals embodied in the cultures of their neighbors. We believe creation of a National Museum of the American Latino Community would represent an important contribution to multicultural education by reflecting the vital contribution of the Latino community to American life, art, culture, and industry.
We are pleased that the House has already approved companion legislation (H.R. 512), and we hope the Senate will move quickly to approve your bill. We thank you again for your efforts on this legislation.
