February 16, 2007

The Latest News:

House Bill Hits 200 Cosponsors!

The House version of the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82), which would completely repeal the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision, has now garnered the support of 200 bipartisan cosponsors. The latest additions are Representatives:

Alexander (R-LA), Bartlett (R-MD), Bishop (R-UT), Bono (R-CA), Lincoln Davis, (D-TN), Forbes (R-VA), Gerlach (R-PA), Kanjorski (D-PA), Moran (D-VA), Napolitano (D-CA), Porter (R-NV), Roskam (R-IL), Schmidt (R-OH), Simpson (R-ID), Stupak (D-MI), Sutton (D-OH), and Yarmuth (D-KY).

Senate Cosponsors Also Continue to Climb

The Senate version of the Social Security Fairness Act (S.206) now has 15 bipartisan cosponsors. The latest additions are Senators:

Boxer, (D-CA), Durbin (D-IL), Kerry (D-MA), Obama (D-IL), and Murray (D-WA)

The rapid rise in support is a direct result of your continued e-mails and the personal lobbying efforts of the NEA Board of Directors, who visited congressional offices last week on this issue. See the complete list of House and Senate cosponsors.

Ongoing Action Needed:

  • Thank Members who have cosponsored the bill and remind them that we need them to continue to advocate for movement of this important legislation.

  • Urge all other Members of Congress to add their names as cosponsors to H.R. 82/S. 206
