Autumn Activities

6 Activities Take Advantage of the Changing Seasons

from Education World®
  1. Photosynthesis Activities
Fall's colors provide the perfect motivation for teaching about photosynthesis across the grades.

  2. Mother Nature Has Her Say
Prepare for the change of seasons with this creative writing lesson (adaptable for all grade levels!) in which students prepare interview questions for Mother Nature and then respond — as the lady herself — to questions designed by another student.

  3. Graphing Greenery
In this lesson, students gather leaves and trace them on graph paper. They then plot coordinates that approximate the shape of the leaves and share those coordinates as "worksheets" for other students to complete.

  4. Foliage Tracker
Grades 6-8 track leaf changes, input data found at one Web site into another, and then graph foliage changes with a free online tool.

  5. Fall Similes
Students write autumn-themed similes on colored paper, then frame these hand-written notes for seasonal display.

  6. Celebrate Fall and Its Colors
Hands-on science and language activities teach important concepts and valuable study skills.
