Fact Sheet on NCLB Implementation

Here is a snapshot of the state's implementation status in complying with the mandates of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB/ESEA) in the following areas: state accountability plans, percentage of teachers and paraprofessionals who have met the "highly qualified" definitions under NCLB as of 2005-06, and state standards and assessment plans.

You will also find links to two charts -– one that illustrates the gap between authorized and actual federal funding of Title I (under ESEA) and another that shows the percentage of schools in the state that did not make "Adequate Yearly Progress" and are in improvement/corrective action status.

 

Accountability Plan

Each time the U.S. Department of Education responds by letter to a state's request to amend its accountability plan, the letter is posted on this Education Dept. Web site page.

Highly Qualified Teacher Plan Status

Approved?  Yes

The Department of Education has posted the "Revised State Plans for Highly Qualified Teachers" submitted by each state on this Education Dept. Web site page

Elementary: 95%
Secondary: 95.4%

Standards and Assessment Plan Status

Approved?   No, approval pending; mandatory oversight

The Department of Education has posted NCLB Standards and Assessment Approval Letters for each state on this Web page. Each of the States will have more than one approval letter over the next year or so.
