Nesting Teachers

Educators are no migratory birds, it seems. A full 61 percent first teach in schools within 15 miles of their hometown, and 85 percent within 40 miles, according to a recent Stanford University study. That's a bad habit for urban areas, which don't produce sufficient numbers of teachers—and consequently must go to great lengths to attract them.
