Global Caring

upfront03.jpgFourth-graders in Sharon Beattie’s Swissvale, Pennsylvania, classroom have proven that caring can go a long way—all around the world, in fact.

For more than 10 years, Beattie’s lessons at Dickson Intermediate School have offered insight into the lives of those less fortunate. Her students have collected school supplies for Haitian schools and have participated in the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), which promotes education as a basic right.

More than 100 million children worldwide don’t have teachers. With that in mind, this year’s theme for GCE’s Global Action Week, April 24–26, is “Every Child Needs a Teacher,” and lessons will focus on the dire need for more qualified teachers.

As usual, Beattie will be participating—and she hopes others will too. For more information about Global Action Week and resources that can be used in lessons, visit www.campaignforeducation.org.
