Calling All Collectors!

Fresh ideas from new teachers

upfront09.jpgTake a look! I’ve got a Mickey Mantle in his Triple Crown year and—even better—a mint Cory Davidson player card! Who’s Cory Davidson? Well, he’s a rookie manager with a dynamite third-grade from Roosevelt Elementary in Bowman, North Dakota  .

It was Davidson’s idea to create player cards for all of his third-graders as part of a reading unit on baseball. Each student submitted relevant stats: age, favorite books, even dream jobs. (Kristine: Hairstylist and veterinarian.) Using Microsoft Publisher, Davidson added photos and formatted them like the Topps originals, but laminated for durability.

“You can do a lot of adaptations with this—animals on the front, famous people, states, anything,” says Davidson, now in his fourth year of teaching.
