Resources for Empowering Girls and Combating Social Aggression

Both Rachel Simmons and Rosalind Wiseman are staff members of the Empower Program, a national, nonprofit educational organization founded in 1992 and based in Washington, DC. The seek to empower young people and adults to create safe schools and communities by providing effective prevention strategies to address bullying and other forms of peer aggression. Services include long and short-term curriculum-based workshops and classes, programming for parents and community groups, youth leadership development as well as public outreach and advocacy.

The Ophelia Project

The Ophelia Project is a national, nonprofit organization headquartered in Erie  , Pa.   Founded in 1997 as a catalyst for positive change within schools and communities, The Ophelia Project is committed to helping girls form healthy peer relationships while creating a safe social culture for all youth.  Today, The Ophelia Project provides educational resources and original programming to raise awareness about relational aggression, and to advocate for healthy youth across the United States and Canada

Girls Circle

Girls Circle specializes in programs to increase girls’ self-efficacy, body image, and social support and to create a safe space for girls to address risky behaviors, build on protective factors, and improve relationships in a format that interests and engages girls.

Girls Incorporated

Girls Inc is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. With roots dating to 1864, Girls Inc has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas.

Creative Crossings

Peggy Rubens, M.Ed, School Counselor and the founder of Creative Crossings, facilitates the weaving together of creative collage-making, games and thought-provoking discussions to help girls explore communication, mutual-respect, increased understanding, community-building and hopes and dreams in a safe, caring, playful environment.
