Fashioned Police(d)
A few decades ago, it was Benetton sweaters. Today, the required wear for with-it teenagers is a “hoodie.” (That’s a hooded sweatshirt to you and me.) But the uniform de rigueur is a fashion pitfall in school districts from California to Massachusetts, which have been taking steps to ban them from campuses. School officials believe it’s much easier for students to evade security cameras or hall monitors and make an anonymous exit from school if they can pull a hood over their face. Non-students can also blend in more easily.
