UpFront15.jpgSince 1979, 101,413 children have been killed by guns—more than the combined casualties of all American wars since World War II. The rate is especially high for Black children, particularly teenage Black boys, and it’s also a growing hazard for girls.

The number of children and teens killed by guns in 2004: 2,825

The number of U.S. soldiers killed in combat in Iraq from 2003 to January 2007: 2,495

The number of preschoolers killed by guns in 2004: 58

The number of law enforcement officials killed in the line of duty in 2004: 57
